Encounters
done by stinkybinky, but he couldn't post it...
got to hear some encouraging encounters over the past few days.
totally cool.
one particular fisherman purposely changed his seating position in class, just so that he might get the chance to interact with people that he usually won't hang out with. all this with the intention of finally sharing the gospel to more of his class mates.
keep it up!
yet another popeye was publicizing about the aforementioned anime event one day in tampines when a total stranger went up to ask him for a brochure of the event cos his friend lost his.
AN UNPRECEDENTED EVENT!!! never have i EVER heard of people asking US for brochures! especially not strangers at that! it's a milestone man... let's continue to commit the event to the Lord and trust in Him for the response of the youth whether good or bad.
well, there are the 'good' encounters, but lets not forget those other run-ins with youth that we are usually less thankful for than we should be. one of us had the privilege of meeting 2 'pai-kia-not-yet-ah-beng's. a totally refereshing experience as compared to meeting your usual reserved and conformist student. what's great about them is that they are honest and open in their opinions. however, they can apparently also be more resistant to correction which is what makes sharing to them seemingly more difficult at times, and hence less desired.
but sometimes such meetings will also spur us on to want to think about how to share the gospel more relevantly to such youths, how to better connect to them and converse with them on their level. after all, didn't we say that we want to share accurately, relevantly and DIVERSELY? well diversely exactly means that we want to reach out to different groups of youth of different mindsets and cultures.
in the midst of all these different scenarios, let's not forget that ALL these encounters are purposed by God and that we should be equally thankful for all of them, whether 'pleasant' or 'unpleasant' in our opinion.
what could be more encouraging than real incidents that we face?
affirmation from God's Word of course! in
Acts 18:5-11 we hear of Paul (yes, that same super preacher Paul) wanting to give up preaching to the Jews in Corinth, but what does God tell him? He says to continue cos
"He has many people in that city" and He is ever with Paul.
So don't be silent!
because who knows? maybe God just decides to use you to cause another heart to turn to Him! and we can never tell who are His.
So just speak!

jehovah jireh, my provider~~~
it really is amazing how the lord provides.
on the 18th of march, singapore youth for christ will be organising an anime event.

if u have no idea what anime is, well, then u can at least be pretty much sure that for the past 6 years you have been living in a cave on pulau ubin and all memories of it have been erased from your mind to keep you from suspecting anyting. why? because the popularity of anime among youth has been picking up so much recently that if you still know nuts about it, then you're worse off than me. and that's bad. but for the benefit of those who really don't know, anime is basically japanese animation (i.e. cartoons) and so u can think of it as anything ranging from doraemon(a.k.a. xiao ding dang) to deathnote.
in this event there will be an audience-judged fanart competition, live performances of anime theme songs, delicious japanese food, exciting anime trivia, a card game excusively designed for this event along with other fun games, attractive prizes, and all this for just $6. amazing.
last week i was at a burger king until it was near it's closing time, and i happened to see 3 students playing a naruto trading card game. IMAGINE THAT! of all times, of all places, of all
card games
, we met under such circumstances. truly in God's providence. interestingly enough,i was just publicising the event earlier that evening, and actually i was ready to leave already before i noticed them.
i shared to them about the event and they sounded keen, in fact, i just got off the phone with one of them who said he wants sign up for the event. awesome. it is my prayer that the others that i met will respond positively as well.
i believe that such encounters definitely cannot be by chance. and so i hope that this can be an encouragement to those who sometimes find it very hard to share to their friends or invite them down for events. we were not put where we are to meet the people we've met by mere coincidence. there is a hand working behind all this. so please trust in that hand(it's the most trustworthy hand around man) and boldly go forth and speak.

for those who still just refuse to stop asking questions
okokok
i know the last entry still leaves unanswered questions.
what happens is that in called2call, there are 3 phases, well, before commiting to the campaign at least. after that there is another progress chart to help you along the way, but that is another matter.
essentially,
for those who think that evangelism is some new religion, you can check out evangelism efforts if you can make it, their dates will be posted on this blog....
This we deem
LEARNing to call.
next,
for those who know abit more about evangelism,
but don't know what to say or how or what to do,
you can
GROW to call,
that is, one of us, voulnteers involved could help you in either sharpening yr knowledge of the saving work of our Lord or teach you how to approach people and share to them.
lastly,
for ppl who clearly know that evangelism is not something you can eat, but is instead a responsibility that all believers bear, and want to do something about it,
they can
COMMIT to call,
meaning they agree that every subsequent month they shall share to one friend at least
so these are the 3 simple phases to called2call
it you wanna know more, just email us.

um.....so what's called2call ? i still dun get it
actually, up til now not much has been mentioned about the campiagn ah...at least not on this blog.
think it's about time something was said.
ok this is
called to call, well, at least, what is supposed to happen...
our goal is to share the Gospel accurately, diversely and relevantly!!!
this is not an easy task.
our target is that 1600 NON-CHRISTIANS hear the gospel in the year 2006!!!
this is really not an easy task.
our desire is that 300 OTHER YOUNG BELIEVERS will join us in this effort!!!
this is really really not easy man...
sound impossible? that's cos IT IS!!!
if we intend on relying on our own efforts alone that is...
But i believe that i am not just speaking for myself when i say:
impossible is nothing...
when God is in the picture.
i think that whether we meet these targets is finally not up to us. but our obligation is to share and
THAT IS WHAT WE SHALL DO!!!

Here I go again...
Attended an event the other nite..
live music, food...
quite cool..
they played a song that was really good
Casting Crowns - Here I Go AgainFather, hear my prayer
I need the perfect words
Words that he will hear
And know they're straight from You
I don't know what to say
I only know it hurts
To see my only friend slowly fade away
So maybe this time I'll speak the words of life
With Your fire in my eyes
But that old familiar fear is tearing at my words
What am I so afraid of?
'Cause here I go again
Talkin 'bout the rain
And mulling over things that won't live past today
And as I dance around the truth
Time is not his friend
This might be my last chance to tell him
That You love Him
But here I go again, here I go again
Lord, You love him so, You gave Your only Son
If he will just believe; he will never die
But how then will he know what he has never heard
Lord he has never seen mirrored in my life
This might be my last chance to tell him
That You love him
This might be my last chance to tell him
That You love him
You love him, You love him
What Am I so afraid
What am I so afraid
What am I so afraid of?
How then will he know
What he has never heard
because we were suppose to share to our friends whom we invited to the event, this song was played, not to encourage our friends to believe, but US, Christians, to share to them! Thot that it was quite good bcoz it talks about the many times we've tried to share the gospel, but bcoz we're too afraid, we quickly change the subject...
...
this happens too many times
...
~sigh~
...
Remembered a verse i was just recently taught..
Rom 1:16I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the slavation of everyone who believes: first for the Jews, then for the Gentiles.Pray that i won't forget that it is God's power that saves and that i shouldn't be ashamed.. but rather to be ready to be used by God to bring the good news, either through my speech or my actions, to the friends that i care about.
if ya want a copy of the song, just leave a comment, and i'll msn it to ya..
